Losing Weight… Simply

These days it sometimes seems that you can’t even turn on the television set or pick up a magazine without being bombarded with gadgets, supplements, diet plans and fitness regimes that are supposed to sculpt even the most stubborn physiques into golden gods.  But do any of them actually work?

Just a head’s up – it is quite possible to lose that extra weight without resorting to these ridiculous trends.  That’s the thing about trends – they eventually end.  But health lasts forever.  So how does one increase their health and enhance their life?

Stop counting calories

Stop and think for a minute… when it comes to your health and weight loss efforts, does it make more sense to sit around counting calories or to get up and get active?  Before you get too caught up in calorie counting and writing down every little bit of food that you eat, try first focusing on changing the quality of the food you are eating.  It’s safe to say that most people would be shocked when they learn how much weight they can actually lose – simply – without ever counting a single calorie.

The confusion surrounding macronutrients

Do you know just how much protein, carbohydrates and fats you should be eating in order to optimize your weight loss?  As much as these numbers do matter, they are not the be-all and end-all of weight loss.  You can successfully lose weight using just about any macronutrient ratio you can dream up.  Counting carbs and fat works, but only if it fits into your lifestyle and you are willing to stick with it.

You need support

Why do people always seem to forget this fact?  It’s simply unbelievable how absolutely essential your support network is in order for your efforts to be successful.  Chances are, the world is going to put pressure on you for your weight loss and better health efforts, but do not give in!

Try and surround yourself with people who believe in you, encourage you and motivate you.  These are the people who truly want you to be at your best, and so they will support you on the long journey to get there.  They will help you get to your goals if you let them.  There are great friends to be found in the healthy lifestyle circles, you just have to be willing to look for them.

Stop aiming for weight loss and aim for weight optimization instead

It seems sometimes as if everyone you meet shares the common goal of losing weight.  But what many do not realize is that weight lost is a side effect of getting healthy!  So stop focusing on the side effects of living an unhealthy lifestyle and search for the root of the problem.

In the end, it’s your body composition and not your weight at all that matters.  If you can let go of the pressures of losing weight, you will find your journey to be a much happier one.  By eating healthy foods and engaging in moderate exercise a few times each week, you will be shocked as you watch the pounds just melt off.  All you need to do is remain patient, consistent, and believe in yourself and that you are doing the right things for your health.

All it takes is movement…

Did you know that just about any consistent movement can be considered a form of exercise?  The trick is to find one or two activities that you love, and then go from there.

If you can’t see yourself still doing the same exercise routine over the next five years, you are extremely unlikely to be able to keep it up for even the next six months or so.  Keep it simple.  Start with just a basic brief walk every day, and then throw in a strength training session once or twice a week.  It’s extremely likely the as soon as you start getting into this habit, your body will start craving more.  Our bodies ultimately want to be healthy and exercise can be extremely addicting.  Just go easy on yourself and make that little extra effort to get moving.  Your diet can take care of the rest.

Think – and cook – ahead

It may be an understatement to say that most people do not like cooking.  In our busy, hurried 21st-century lives, the fact of the matter is that most people actually are starting to dread cooking.  Which is sad, because it can be an amazing thing.  If you need to save time but still want to eat healthier, do it the simple way – take one day each week and prep all of your food for that week.  Chop up all your veggies and fruit, put them in plastic storage containers, then toss them in the fridge or freezer.  You can toss a week’s worth of beef into the crockpot or grill up a week’s worth of chicken breasts on the BBQ.

This way, when it comes time to eat, all you have to do is choose something, put it on your plate, and toss it into the microwave.  That way it’s done, and your meal prep takes all of maybe five minutes.  If you can manage to streamline the process of getting healthy food onto your plate, it helps to ensure that you always have something healthy on hand that can be whipped up in a flash.

Eat, live, be healthy!

With these six tips at your fingers and that rock solid motivation that I know is hiding inside each and every one of you, I know that you can do it!  Losing weight isn’t rocket science – it’s simple nutrition and biology, with a little physical education tossed in.  It can be easier than you think.  Just start by simply setting some goals, set a path for action and get going!
