As the seasons change, we often get into an increased cold or flu presence.  While these tips on boosting your immune health get great recommendations at any time, pay closer attention to them during this season or when your family, friends or co-workers are sick.

Tips on boosting your immunity to ward off the common cold:

  • Drink plenty of fluids (water or natural juices that will rehydrate you).  Avoid caffeinated beverages
  • Boost your intake of vitamin D in the darker months with 1000 IU per day (ask your doctor for recommended doses)
  • Get regular and adequate amounts of sleep
  • Wash your hands regularly to minimize the spread of germs

Foods that boost your immunity:

  • Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit
  • Veggies like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, tomatoes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and red bell peppers
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Black or green teas
