An apple a day…

Moms are famous for certain sayings, but one that has been tested by time is the old “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.  Well, as it turns out, apples have even more benefits than just that!

Firstly, there is the simple pleasure and joy one gets from biting into a crisp, fresh, juicy apple!  The best part about taking that bite is actually that it contains a ton of healthy flavonoids, which are antioxidants that help to reduce your risk of developing cancer or heart disease.  Makes sure that you leave the skin ON though, as that’s where most of the nutrients in an apple are found.

Other benefits include apples being high in fiber (which will help to lower cholesterol and flush toxins out of your body) and having vitamins like vitamins A, C, E, K and a bunch of B vitamins.  They also hold minerals like phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc and more!  Drinking apple juice is also beneficial, though not as much as eating the whole fruit, which gives you fiber as well.  Another benefit to eating that whole piece of fruit is that it is WAY more hunger satisfying than just drinking a glass of the juice!

Besides all that, there is the obvious fact that apples are fruits, and when eaten in their purest form, have nothing but benefit for you and your body!  So eat up, and watch those doctors run…
